The task of restoring and maintaining a 600-year-old, Grade 1 listed church is not insignificant, both in terms of money and resources. By 2015, rainwater was pouring in so vigorously through a decaying roof it was causing real damage to the interior walls and monuments. Thanks to a small village team established as a steering group, and with financial help from the Heritage Lottery Fund and other grant funders, a restoration project was launched and by 2018 the roof and other deteriorating items were repaired.

Unfortunately, that is not the end of the story, and there are still major challenges ahead if All Saints’ is to remain a viable place of worship and community asset. A new programme of work is underway to address a number of issues, including:

  • the interior, including the walls and monuments, is in desperate need of specialist cleaning;
  • the massive East Window, which was last repaired in 1866, is in urgent need of repair;
  • the heating continually leaks and fails;
  • the lighting needs replacing;
