SUMMARY:Fun Dog Show 2024
DESCRIPTION:Bolton Percy Fun Dog Show\, Saturday 8th June 2024 \nSupreme Champion ‘Marley’ with handler Poppy and Judge Celia Swain.\nA total of 19 dogs were entered by their owners across the range of classes with some travelling from outside the village to take part. \nCongratulations go to Poppy & Matthew Morton from Colton for winning the ‘Supreme Champion’ title with their Collie x Labrador ‘Marley’ ! \nThe Dog Show was organised by Andrew Schofield\, compared by Alan Swain and the Judge for the second-year running was Crufts Veteran Celia Swain. Jim Reid took the photographs. \nThanks to Andrew\, Alan\, Jim and Celia for all their efforts in making this a successful and enjoyable event. \nThe Judge’s Comments (guest Judge Celia Swain) are as follows: \nThank you for the invitation to judge the BP Village Fete Dog Show again and a big thank you to everyone who entered. I would like to say how impeccably behaved all the entrants were on such a busy afternoon and what a lovely range of pet pooches I had to consider. \nThe Results:\nSupreme Champion (chosen from winners of each class) \nCongratulations to Poppy and Matthew Morton from Colton with their Collie x Labrador for winning the ‘Supreme Champion’ title \nCutest Puppy – Milo\, 16 weeks old\, Cockapoo \nOnly two puppies entered this year and it was a very hard decision to make as to which was the cutest. \nShown very well by his young handler\, Emily Dance\, Milo behaved beautifully. He has a lovely soft coat\, a very sweet face\, gorgeous kind eyes and boundless energy. Congratulations Emily and Milo. \nPrettiest Female and Supreme Champion – Marley\, 3yrs old Collie x Labrador \nSuch a difficult class from which to pick a winner with so many pretty girls entered. Marley\, handled with confidence by Poppy\, stood out for me because she has a super gleaming coat\, a very pretty face and expression\, a calm but inquisitive nature and Poppy clearly has a very special bond with her pet. Well done girls! \nMost Handsome Male – Sully\, 3.5yrs old\, Golden Retriever \nA huge class of 11 gorgeous dogs and all so well behaved. It was certainly not an easy job to single out one for top honours. \nHowever\, after much deliberation it was Sully\, handled by Lisa from Appleton Roebuck\, who was my 1st place choice today. He is without doubt a very fine specimen\, a stunning example of his breed. He has a rich\, gold coat\, a very masculine head\, broad muzzle and alert expression. He is obviously a very friendly boy and a great companion. Good job Sully! \nGolden Oldie – Beau\, 11yrs 9mths\, Pug \nHandled by Tino (4yrs old!) \nThe youngest and oldest entrants in the show today\, Tino and Beau make a great team and it was lovely to see them moving around the show together. For his age\, Beau is very active\, moves well and he was presented in very good condition. He has a lovely soft coat and dark eyes. \nTino has the makings of a great handler. Brilliant job Tino and Beau.. \nWaggiest Tail – Milo\, 6yrs old\, Cocker Spaniel \nHandled by Gemma and ably assisted by Cillian and Ossie\, Milo continued to wag his tail all afternoon\, in and out of the show ring! It was fairly easy to place him first in this category. His exuberance and zest for life is infectious and brings a smile to the faces of all around him.  Congratulations Milo! \n\n \n \n \n \n Supreme Champion 2024 Winner: Marley\n \n \n \n \n \n Cutest Puppy 2024 Winner: Milo\n \n \n \n \n \n Most Handsome Male 2024 Winner: Sully\n \n \n \n \n \n Prettiest Female 2024 Winner: Marley\n \n \n \n \n \n Golden Oldie 2024 Winner: Beau\n \n \n \n \n \n Waggiest Tail 2024 Winner : Milo\n \n \n\n

SUMMARY:Platinum Jubilee Weekend
DESCRIPTION:What a weekend it was!  Bolton Percy certainly provided entertainment for all ages across the 4 days and the consensus is that the months of planning and effort were well spent.  We were fortunate that the weather stayed dry for the pig racing\, fete\, dog show\, classic cars\, 70 years exhibition\, treasure hunt and on into the evening with the barbeque and pop-up pub.  It was wonderful to see so many people support the events and come together as a community. \nNaturally any event is only possible with willing volunteers giving a huge amount of time to making it happen.  There are so many to thank across the weekend and thanks to everyone who donated items for the various stalls at the fete.  This weekend will go into the village archives for the next fabulous display of the decades in Bolton Percy!  \n \n– Pig Racing \nThis was a family fun event\, largely organised by Stuart and Alison Bradford in association with the cricket club and it kicked off the Jubilee weekend in great style.  The evening raised a fabulous £1035.74 from the racing and £576 from the cricket club bar.  This total was shared equally between BPCC and village funds each receiving £805.87.  Big thanks to the BP Cricket Club for ensuring the event ran smoothly. \n– Summer Fete \nIt was superb to be able to resurrect the summer fete this year which was fabulously enhanced by the amazing 70 Years in BP exhibition\, the classic cars display\, the treasure hunt\, the dog show\, the barbeque and the pop- up pub.  So many events across the whole day meant there was something for everyone to enjoy.  The fete raised an incredible £2053.59 and we can also claim a further £93 in gift aid from donations received for the refreshments in the Parish Room.   This is all magnificent monies for All Saints’ church\, Bolton Percy as the last 2 years has seen a significant drop in finances obviously. \n– Barbeque at the ‘Pub’ \nVery many thanks indeed to Pat and Tim Watson along with Jon Atkinson and others for putting on the delicious food at the Parish Room after the fete.  The magnificent profit of £136.70 from this was donated to the Cemetery Garden team for equipment\, sprays etc. \n– Jubilee Picnic \nThe celebrations were rounded off with a picnic on the Village Green\, with Union Jacks and Trifle very much on the menu. \n– 70 Years in BP Exhibition \nTo cover the period from the Queen’s Coronation to the present day\, an exhibition of stories and pictures was compiled by Jenny and Martin Rice\, assisted by Denise Ford\, who had plenty of stories to contribute. This proved very popular and extra viewing sessions were added. The whole exhibition is currently being transferred to a series of A3 files\, which will no doubt be of interest to BP residents in future years. \nA huge thank you to everyone who visited\, helped or contributed or were involved in any way.

SUMMARY:The Fall and Rise of Emley Moor Tower
DESCRIPTION:The Parish Room played host to a good crowd for David Thomas’ fascinating presentation. It was professionally delivered and very well received by all present. David provided first hand\, and very detailed\, narrative about the events surrounding the catastrophic collapse of the tower and subsequent restoration. An event which happened ‘under his watch’ and presented him with a once-in-a-lifetime challenge as Regional Network Controller for the GPO at the time. \nThe first event to be held following lockdown and refurbishment of the Parish Room\, thanks to David for a successful and very enjoyable evening.
